About the Association for Independent Medicine

Our Mission: Protecting Independent Medicine

The Association for Independent Medicine (AIM) exists to ensure independent physicians and physician-led practices remain a strong and sustainable force in American healthcare. We believe that maintaining physician control of clinical decision-making leads to better outcomes for patients and more responsible stewardship of healthcare resources.

A National Voice for Independent Physicians

Independent medicine is facing unprecedented pressure from healthcare consolidation, regulatory complexity, and private equity investment. AIM serves as a national independent physician association advocating for physician autonomy, practice sustainability, and coordinated engagement across specialties and states.

Less than half of patient-care physicians work for physician-owned practices.

Building Collaboration Across Organizations

AIM works alongside physician groups, specialty societies, and advocacy organizations that share a commitment to independent, physician-led care. By fostering collaboration rather than competition, we strengthen the collective voice of independent medicine.

Our Approach

  • Coordinated advocacy at state and national levels
  • Strategic collaboration across independent physician organizations
  • Education and leadership development
  • Convening the annual Independent Physician Summit

How AIM can help you

Practice Support

AIM provides overall practice support in the form of governance support, administrative efforts, resources for insurance, payroll and billing services and more. Ensure you have a solid foundation in these essential areas via AIM’s proprietary “Private Practice Tool Kit.”

Advocacy

AIM is continually developing and fostering relationships with like-minded organizations, media, and political contacts, helping to drive awareness of and action to change the existing healthcare landscape being taken over by corporations and private equity-backed companies more focused on profits than patients and physicians.

Negotiations

Ensuring you’re prepared for a negotiation before entering one is the best way to secure a favorable outcome. This looks like taking regular stock of your practice’s financials, governance, and goals to identify and maintain your sense of value.
